Staff Psychotherapist, Soho Psychotherapy
Meet Elizabeth Boylan
Hi, I’m Elizabeth — a psychotherapist who believes that our bodies hold the stories our minds can’t always perceive.
I help clients understand how traumatic experiences, whether sudden or subtle, can get “stuck” in the nervous system and show up as tension, overthinking, hypervigilance, or disconnection from self.
In our work together, we explore how your body responds to stress and create safe ways to release energy that’s been trapped there. My approach blends curiosity with neuroscience, helping you recognize your patterns and learn how to regulate rather than react. Healing is about helping your system slow down enough to feel safe and present, and alive again.
I’m trained in a range of somatic and trauma-focused modalities, including
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Somatic Experiencing (SE)
Brainspotting
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Polyvagal Theory
and Deep Brain Reorienting
I draw from mindfulness or Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) for distress tolerance and emotional regulation. I use motivational interviewing to support lasting change, helping people move from inaction or thinking about taking action to taking action.
I work primarily with young adults and individual clients who are motivated to explore their inner world. I work with people who have tried traditional talk therapy and are ready for a more embodied approach. Many come to me after realizing that while they understand their trauma intellectually, their body still feels stuck in survival mode. Together, we build tools for regulation, self-compassion, and joy, even when joy itself feels unfamiliar or unsafe.
Before joining Soho Psychotherapy, I worked at NYU Langone Hospital, supporting individuals with complex PTSD and personality disorders, as well as in hospitals, sober livings, and crisis programs. Across every setting, one truth remains constant: the body has an innate capacity to heal when given the right conditions.
Education
I completed my undergraduate studies at Lesley University with a BA in Psychology and minor in Social Work. I earned my Master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University. I have always been passionate about serving a vast array of communities and have experience in many different levels of care with underserved populations. I am deeply committed towards my ongoing professional development. I have been asked to assist in training other clinicians to deepen my own learning around different somatic modalities as well as support those in the helping profession.
